Monster Sky

Hey, everyone! I got inspired by a dark thunderstorm cloud ( also known as cumulonimbus or thunderheads) up against a big (fir or pine) tree back in August 2018 to write a story about it. Here are some related blog posts: https://lilliandarnell.com/2015/06/05/latest-weather-thunderstorms/https://lilliandarnell.com/2018/02/11/how-the-sun-came-to-be/, and https://lilliandarnell.com/2016/07/20/a-happy-world/. Anyway, I hope you enjoy!

One day years ago, the Cloud King said in a powerful voice, “Have you finished pouring water down into the world yet?” And the Water Fairy said scared, “Almost, Your Cloudiness.”

The Cloud King laughed a loud, mighty, politely and said, “Relax! I’m not mad. I think the world is definitely getting tired of rain though. I do understand that you’re a water fairy and that’s what you’re meant to do.”

The Water Fairy said with a sigh of relief, “Thank you, Your Cloudiness! You have no idea what this means to me. Yes, I agree that the world is getting tired of rain but the world needs some kind of water too though. ” “Well, you could create lakes, rivers, puddles, and more for water”, said the Cloud King as he scratched his chin thoughtfully.

“Thank you, Your Cloudiness!” And so all was well or so they thought. Many years later, The Cloud King rumbled loudly and said, “Who took my lightning lamp?” The Lightning Fairy said scared, “I don’t know, Your Cloudiness! I thought I put the lightning lamp on your cloud.”

The Cloud King rumbled with anger and said, “Go find my lightning lamp now or I’ll make a violent storm!” So the poor Lightning Fairy went to search for the lightning lamp.

On the way, the Lightning Fairy flew into the Water Fairy (who was much older now) and so the Lightning Fairy said, “Hello, Aqua (the Water Fairy’s real name)! Have you by any chance seen a lightning lamp over this way?”

“No, sorry I haven’t. I’ll keep my eye out for the Cloud King’s lightning lamp, Summer (the Lightning Fairy’s real name) though.”, said the Water Fairy sympathetically. “Thank you, Aqua. I’m on my way to see Misty (the Cloud Fairy’s full name) and Raine (the Rain Fairy’s real name). “, said the Lightning Fairy longingly.

Meanwhile, the Cloud King couldn’t wait any longer and cursed the world by shouting, “Make a violent storm with loud sound and blinding light.” Almost immediately after he said that, thunder echoed on the Earth below as well as lightning striking the sky.

The rain came pouring down with the speed of light on Earth. Back at the Cloud Fairy’s home, the Lightning Fairy talked with the Cloud Fairy. “I’m sorry but I haven’t seen my father’s Cloud King’s lightning lamp, Aqua. Did you hear my father Cloud King cursed the world with a violent storm? Also, have you seen Raine yet?”, said the Cloud Fairy pitifully.

“Why, no! I didn’t know that, Misty. Thanks for telling me. No, that’s where I’m off to next. I guess I better hurry if I want to make to Raine’s home though. Goodbye, Misty!”, said the Water Fairy shocked and determined as she left.

Back at the Cloud King’s palace, the Cloud King was surprised at what he had just done to the Earth below. Sadly, there wasn’t anything he could do about it until he had the lightning lamp back.

Meanwhile, the Water Fairy had just arrived at the Rain Fairy’s home. The Water Fairy gently knocked on the door and a few seconds later the Rain Fairy opened the door. “Hey there, Aqua! I knew you were coming to look for something”, said the Rain Fairy calmly.

“Hey, Raine. You did, how so?”, said the Water Fairy quizzically. The Rain Fairy chuckled and explained, “You see, I borrowed the Lightning Lamp for one of my rain experiments but I see that the Cloud King beat me to it.”

“Oh, well. Are you done with the lightning lamp? I want to get the Lightning Lamp to the Cloud King right away”, asked the Water Fairy patiently. “Yes, I finished long ago with the experiment”, said the Rain Fairy as she gently gave the Water Fairy the Lightning Lamp.

The Water Fairy said, “Thank you so much!” as she left the Rain Fairy’s home and flew towards the Cloud King’s palace. Fortunately, he was asleep so she put the Lightning Lamp on the cloud as she left it previously.

The very next day, The Cloud King woke up to the Lightning Lamp sitting on the cloud like nothing ever happened. He gave a cry of joy having found it. Unfortunately, it was broken but the King decided to keep the storm and he had the power to control the violent storm.

After that, he gathered the Water Fairy; the Rain Fairy, the Lightning Fairy, and the Cloud Fairy together and announced that he found the Lightning Lamp. The fairies smiled knowingly and burst in celebration.

And everything worked out perfectly. Now the violent storm you have read about in the story is a thunderstorm, so if you ever experience a thunderstorm think of this story.

Sunset or sunrise clouds.

Pretty sunset clouds!

How Rain Came To Be Nature’s Glitter

Hey, everyone! This story is about nature’s natural glitter. You are about to enter a story about rain. Here are more stories: https://lilliandarnell.com/2018/01/28/amazing-nature-party-who-the-special-guests-were/https://lilliandarnell.com/2017/04/10/princess-beauty/, and https://lilliandarnell.com/2017/03/09/angel-island/. I hope you enjoy!

Once long ago, there lived Raine and her friend Storm who lived happily in their home. One day, Raine and Storm saw an advertisement that read, “Mother Nature is looking for weather assistants. Please visit Mother Nature at 8989 Snowy Sun Lane about the job. ”

“Should we visit Mother Nature about the job?”, said Raine to Storm. “Yes, we should. I just hope that Mother Nature is paying a good price”, said Storm.

So, Raine and Storm walked over to Mother Nature’s home. When Raine and Storm got there, here’s the people they saw Hailey, Thunder, Lightning, and Sunny all waiting for Mother Nature to open the door.

Just as Raine and Storm arrived, Mother Nature opened her door and her eyes widened in surprise. “My goodness, I didn’t expect so many people to show up. Well, I guess I better get started,” exclaimed Mother Nature.

Fortunately, Raine and Storm were first to head inside Mother Nature’s home. Mother Nature had white marble pillars arching high over their head, a large winding staircase leading to the meeting room, and a gorgeous chandelier overhead.

As soon as Raine and Storm reached the meeting room, Mother Nature asked a few questions like “what’s your name?” and “what’s your age?”. Eventually, Raine and Storm were told to explore Mother Nature’s home.

The next people were called in from outside were Thunder and Lightning. Mother Nature asked them different questions like “what weather do you like the most?” and “which one would you like to be the most if you got the job?”.

After Mother Nature finished those questions, Thunder and Lightning were also asked to explore Mother Nature’s home or talk to Storm and Raine. Mother Nature went outside to ask Hailey and Sunny questions like “Are you enjoying this weather?” and “Have you ever expressed your feelings before?”.

After Mother Nature finished those questions for Hailey and Sunny, she went to get Raine, Storm, Thunder, and Lightning. Storm and Raine were checking out the weather art gallery while Thunder and Lightning were watching a movie called Singin’ in the Rain in the weather theater.

After Mother Nature got Raine, Storm, Thunder, and Lightning, they all headed for the grass outside. Mother Nature said, “Sunny, you got the job for sunshine. Raine, you got the job for rain. Thunder, you got the job for thunder. Lightning, you got the job for lightning and you also get to help Thunder. Hailey, you got the job for hail you can help with Raine, Thunder, Lightning. Storm, you got the job for storm which means you get help Raine, Thunder, Lightning, Hailey.”

So Mother Nature sent them all on their way to pack some belongings at their homes. As Raine and Storm walked home, Raine asked,”Should I change my name to Rain since I got the rain job?”.

Storm replied, “Yes, that sounds like a great idea!”. Meanwhile, Hailey was asking, “Should I change my name to Hail since I got the hail job?”. Sunny responded,”Yes, great idea. I will shorten my name to Sun.”

So when Storm and Raine got home, Raine called Mother Nature to tell her that she changed her name to Rain. Meanwhile, Hailey and Sunny called Mother Nature to tell her that Hailey and Sunny changed their names to Hail and Sun.

Mother Nature asked,”Can you be my natural glitter for when Sunny shines on you?” when Raine called and Raine happily agreed. Hailey and Sunny also agreed to be nature’s glitter for colder months and that’s how Rain became nature’s glitter.

Latest Weather: Thunderstorms

Hi there! I decided to do thunderstorms for my weekly research and I thought that this time of year would be perfect. I’d like to thank my mother Camilla for making this possible.

A thunderstorm is a storm with lightning and thunder. It is produced by a cumulonimbus cloud, usually producing gusty winds, heavy rain and sometimes hail but not always in the Western USA. The basic ingredients used to make a thunderstorm are moisture, unstable air and lift.

The earth needs moisture to form clouds and rain. You need unstable air that is relatively warm and can rise rapidly. Finally, you need lift.

The lift can form from fronts, sea breezes or mountains. Thunderstorms can occur year-round and at all hours. But they are most likely to happen in the spring and summer months and during the afternoon and evening hours.

Some people estimated that there are around 1,800 thunderstorms that occur across our planet every day. All thunderstorms are dangerous. Every thunderstorm produces lightning, which kills more people each year than tornadoes.

Thunder is the sound caused by lightning. The intense heat from lightning causes the surrounding air to rapidly expand and create a sonic wave that you hear as thunder. The average temperature of lightning is around 20000°C (36000°F).

The sound of thunder can be anything from a loud crack to a low rumble. Light travels faster than sound so we see lightning before we hear thunder. The closer you live, the shorter the gap between the lightning and thunder.

The speed of sound is around 767 miles per hour (1,230 kilometres per hour). The speed of light is around 669600000 miles per hour (1080000000 kilometres per hour). Thunder is difficult to hear at distances over 12 miles (20 kilometres).

Thousands of years ago, philosophers such as Aristotle believed that thunder was caused by the collision of clouds. Astraphobia is the fear of thunder and lightning. The Oklahoma basketball team that play in the National Basketball Association (NBA) are called the Thunder.
